Announcing the next in the U3A Speaker series.  In this, Andrew Lang will talk about bioenergy technologies, our sustainable biomass feedstocks, how other countries have developed bioenergy, and what the potential is for Australia. Biomass is the largest source of renewable energy across the EU, and worldwide, providing more renewable energy consumed than all other renewable energy sources together. Call for Volunteers

We have been asked to promote the Deakin University Science & Engineering Challenge in order to attract some volunteers for the event. Rotary has provided volunteers in previous years and Lions, Rotary and U3A are being asked in 2026. It is reported to be a very worthwhile  and well run activity for secondary students.

Invitation to participate in university study

The School of Applied Psychology, Griffith University, Gold Coast is conducting a PhD research project: Online Survey to Inform Mindfulness Based Interventions in People Aged Over 60. The overall purpose of the research is to develop a mindfulness intervention with input from people with lived experiences.  The first stage which involves completion of an online survey to obtain opinions to inform the design of the mindfulness intervention. Participants will have the option to express their interest for the future phases of the study (focus group to further design the intervention and participating in a pilot trial of the intervention).

Kate Donelan: Senior Victorian of the Year for Positive Ageing

Kate is a dedicated volunteer and advocate for the wellbeing of older people. While Chair of the Port Fairy Community House, Kate wanted to identify the needs of local older people. She won a research grant that found older people wanted more opportunities for learning and connection. Using this evidence, Kate led a team to start a University of the Third Age (U3A) in Port Fairy. U3A Port Fairy opened in 2018 with Kate as President. Under her leadership, membership has grown to 280 people. Kate has also developed a strong volunteering culture. She inspires members to become course leaders […]
